Master the Art of Silat: Empower Your Body and Mind

Meet the Instructor: Abdur-Rahman Blanchette

Abdur-Rahman Blanchette’s journey in martial arts began at the young age of ten with Judo, where he excelled to the level of Junior Black Belt and had the honor of representing the British Judo Team in numerous competitions across Europe and America.

His passion for martial arts extended into Kung Fu, where he spent fifteen years mastering two main styles under the guidance of Master Gerry Tan, eventually becoming an instructor. It was during this time that Abdur-Rahman was introduced to the art of Silat, sparking a new chapter in his martial arts journey.

Silat, a traditional martial art originating from Southeast Asia, captivated Abdur-Rahman during his studies in Kung Fu. He first trained in the Malaysian style under Master Arifeen in London, reaching Instructor level and continuing to teach and refine his skills.

His dedication led him to study the Indonesian style with Master Abdun-Nur, and later, to deepen his knowledge under the guidance of Grandmaster Firdaus in Indonesia. Abdur-Rahman’s expertise was further solidified during his time in Malaysia with Master Shamsun-Noor, where he received licenses to teach both the Malaysian and Indonesian forms of Silat.

Today, he focuses on practicing and teaching Traditional Silat through his full-time school, Silat asli Martial Arts.
