While Sadaqah enriches the individual who gets it on a single occasion, Sadaqah Jariyah continues to benefit the recipient(s) throughout time. Giving someone food is a Sadaqah that benefits that person at the time, but gifting a water well from which people may collect water on a regular basis is a Sadaqah Jariyah.

Sadaqah is a kind of voluntary philanthropy that can be donated at any time of year and to whatever purpose the giver chooses. Zakat, on the other hand, is a compulsory charitable gesture that equals 2.5% of a Muslim’s yearly savings over the Nisab threshold.

While there are no restrictions while donating Sadaqah, there may be some when donating Zakat in terms of who can benefit from the charity.

In Arabic, the word ‘Sadaqah’ literally means ‘righteousness’ and is derived from the root word’sidq’, which means sincerity, meaning that Sadaqah is sincerity of faith and virtuous action that leads to a healthy and balanced community.

According to Bukhari, the Prophet Muhammed (saw) was ‘more generous than the blowing wind’.

Sadaqah is offered only for the sake of pleasing Allah (SWT). However, there are several benefits to giving Sadaqah since we are following the Prophet’s (saw) example.
